About Me
I am grateful to live on the traditional and unceded territories of the Lekwungen speaking people, represented by the Songhees First Nation and Esquimalt First Nation AKA Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
I am a sewist and small business owner. Before starting Gather & Stitch, I was part of a team that converted a local sewing store into a worker co-op and was its General Manager for several years.
I love thinking and talking about where sewing overlaps with social issues (i.e. people’s well-being) and sustainability (i.e. the health of the planet). This includes topics like upcycling, textile workers’ rights, and community amongst sewists.
I am also someone who loves connecting with people and supporting their growth, even in small ways! This interest is what led me to my past career as a social worker. It also fuels my commitment to creating sewing spaces that are inclusive and encouraging.
When not sewing, interviewing people about sewing, or thinking about sewing (see a theme here?), you might find me walking my rescue dog by the ocean, having tea with friends or playing Scrabble with my partner.
Some fun facts about me are that I am fluent in American Sign Language and that I thrive on a steady intake of black tea!
