This is a great project to practice your sewing skills. There are no zippers to sew in or buttonholes to make.
You Will Learn How To:
Use a rotary cutter, ruler and self-healing mat to cut out precise shapes

This Class Is For You If:
You are 16 or older
You can thread your machine, wind a bobbin, select stitches, and sew forward and back. You don’t have to have sewn any projects before.
I Will Provide:
All tools and equipment.
(If you need one) A sewing machine, foot pedal, and empty bobbin.
You Should Bring:
1 meter of quilting cotton or lightweight canvas fabric (this is enough to cover up to a 20” square cushion)
A spool of good quality all-purpose thread in a coordinating colour. (No dollar store or vintage thread, please, as these are liable to break!)

Does a young person (aged 11 - 13) in your life want to make clothes? Do they have some sewing skills under their belt? Then this class is for them!
We will be using The Foundation Pattern from Thread & Sprout. Although we will be making the short-sleeved t-shirt in this class, your child will receive the full pattern which also has options to make a top with ¾ length sleeves, as well as a short- or ¾ length-sleeved dress!

You Child Is Welcome To Join This Class If:
They are aged 11 to 13
They can confidently thread a machine, wind a bobbin, and operate a machine.

Week 1:
Bring yourself and your child to Gala Fabrics on Saturday, October 10th at 10 am! I will be going over some sewing pattern basics, teaching your kids to take their measurements, deciding what size of tee to make, and figuring out how much fabric they’ll need to buy.
I can help you choose the fabric with your child that they want to use for their project. Gala Fabrics generously offers 20% off to Gather & Stitch students for their class supplies! If your child already has fabric and thread - or you want to pick it up somewhere else - this is also absolutely fine!
Weeks 2 and 3:
Bring fabric (washed and dried) and a spool of thread (such as Guterman or Mettler, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)
(If they have and want to bring it) Their sewing machine, foot pedal, empty bobbin and sewing machine manual
I Will Provide:
A printed copy of the sewing pattern (a $15 value)
Digital files for the pattern (a $20 value)

Join me to sew two beautiful patchwork linen coasters! These satisfying little makes add a fun pop of colour wherever you use them. They also make great gifts - if you can bear to part with them!
We will be using the “Coasters” pattern from the book “The Handmade Home” by Arounna Khounnoraj.
You Will Learn How To:
Piece patchwork fabric
Create a “bagged out” project with hidden seams and smooth curves
Handsew using ladder stitch
Decorate your coaster with running stitch
You will have time in class to finish one coaster. You may leave class with some hand-stitching left to do on your second coaster.
This Class Is For You If:
- You are 16 or older
- You have completed 2-3 projects recently. You can confidently thread your machine, wind a bobbin, and operate your machine.
I Will Provide:
Coaster-making kit for two coasters (value of $32.99), containing:
linen in multiple solid colours
cotton batting
a spool of cotton thread
embroidery floss
Universal 80/12 sewing needle,
two hand-sewing needles.

Make a quilt to keep you cozy this fall!
In this four-week beginner-friendly low-stress class, you will make a throw-sized (40 × 56”) Fast Four Patch quilt from Diary of a Quilter.
You Will Learn:
Quilting terminology
To accurately cut using a rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, and cutting mat
How to piece your quilt
How to make a quilt “sandwich”
How to quilt (sew together the layers) of your quilt
How to bind your quilt
You are Welcome To Join This Class If:
You are aged 16 or older
You have completed a minimum of 3 sewing projects recently. You can confidently operate a sewing machine.
Supplies To Purchase:
For Week 1:
1 ¼ yard background print (for big squares on the front)
8 × 1/8 yard of various prints (for small squares on the front - I recommend one solid colour so the quilt doesn’t look too “busy”)
1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that blends in with your fabrics (i.e. Mettler or Guterman, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)
For Week 3:
2 ½ yards of backing fabric
Package of batting for a throw size quilt (60×60”)
1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that either blends in or contrasts with your fabrics, depending on the look you like (i.e. Mettler or Guterman, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)
For Week 4:
½ yard of fabric for binding
