Did someone pass a machine on to you but you don’t know if it works? Curious about sewing and want to try out a machine before buying your own? If so, this class is for you!

You Will Learn:

  • How to thread a machine

  • How to wind a bobbin

  • How to use different stitches

  • How to sew different types of textiles/fabric

  • How to select the correct needle for your project

  • How to finish your seams

Class Level:
Level 0 - No experience required

Age:
16 and up

Class Supplies:

Please bring the following:

  • A sewing machine, if you have one! (Don’t forget your foot pedal, an empty bobbin, and your machine’s manual, if you have one). If you don’t, you’re welcome to use one of mine.

  • A spool of standard thread (polyester or cotton, from Guterman or Mettler - no dollar store or vintage thread, please, as it’s liable to break)

I will supply scraps of fabric to practise on.

Note: If you’ve never tried your machine before, or if it’s been sitting for a long time, it’s possible you’ll find out in class that it needs to be serviced. If this is the case, I can lend you a machine to practise on during class.

Gala Fabrics generously offers 20% off to students taking a class with me. Please show staff your emailed registration receipt from Gather & Stitch at the till to get your discount!
