Put A Quilt (Block) On It! Upcycled Sweatshirt - Tuesday, November 10
Upcycle a sweatshirt by putting a quilt block on it!
In this class, you will make a simple quilt block and attach it to a sweatshirt or hoodie. This is a great opportunity to give an old sweatshirt a new life!
You Will Learn:
To accurately cut using a rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, and cutting mat
How to piece your quilt block
How to stabalize your quilt block
How to attach your quilt block to your garment
You are Welcome To Join This Class If:
You are aged 16 or older
You should have a couple of simple sewing projects under your belt and be comfortable threading and operating a machine.
What To Bring:
a sweatshirt or hoodie
enough fabric for 9 different 4”/10 cm squares
You can use scraps of quilting cotton or linen or upcycle tea towels, button-down shirts, old sheets/pillowcases etc. Any mid-weight, woven fabric (not stretchy) will work.
If you don’t have anything to upcycle, you can buy 9 different 5” lengths of quilting cotton or stable linen fabric from a fabric store. You will have lots of leftovers!2 spools of good quality all-purpose thread (e.g. Mettler, Gutermann): 1 colour that blends in with your fabrics (for piecing, grey usually works) and 1 that matches your sweatshirt (for topstitching). (No vintage or dollar store thread, please, as these tend to break!)
Your sewing machine, if you have one and want to bring it
