Make A Knit Tee - For Kids! - Jan 9, 16, 23 & 30

$239.00

Does a young person (aged 11 - 13) in your life want to make clothes? Do they have some sewing skills under their belt? Then this class is for them!

We will likely be using the Tina t-shirt pattern from Jalie. Your child will have the option of making a short or long-sleeved tee with a choice of necklines.

Your Child Will Learn How To:

  • Use a PDF pattern

  • Take their body measurements

  • Understand basic pattern information

  • Choose the right fabric for their project

  • Cut out their knit project

  • Sew with knit fabric

  • How to hem a knit t-shirt

You Child Is Welcome To Join This Class If:

  • They are aged 11 to 13

  • They can confidently thread a machine, wind a bobbin, and operate a machine. They should have some experience with garment making.

Supplies To Bring:

Week 1:
Bring yourself and your child to Gala Fabrics on Saturday, January 9 at 10 am! I will be going over some sewing pattern basics, teaching your kids to take their measurements, deciding what size of tee to make, and figuring out how much fabric they’ll need to buy.

Gala Fabrics generously offers 20% off to Gather & Stitch students for their class supplies! If your child already has fabric and thread - or you want to pick it up somewhere else - this is also absolutely fine!

Weeks 2-4:

  • Bring fabric (washed and dried) and a spool of thread (such as Guterman or Mettler, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)

  • (If they have and want to bring it) Their sewing machine, foot pedal, empty bobbin and sewing machine manual

I Will Provide:

  • A printed copy of the sewing pattern (a $15 value)

  • Digital files for the pattern (a $19 value)

  • All tools and equipment

  • (If needed) A sewing machine, foot pedal, and empty bobbin to use in class.

Days & Times:
- Saturday, January 9 from 10 - 11 am at Gala Fabrics
- Saturday, January 16, 23, and 30 from 10 am - 12 pm at theDock

Locations:
Gala Fabrics is at 738 Caledonia Ave., near Blanshard St. and the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre.

theDock: Centre for Social Impact is at 722 Cormorant St., near Douglas St. and Pandora Ave. and Victoria City Hall.
