Learn To Quilt - Thursdays, January 7, 14, 21, 28 & Feb 5
In this five-week beginner-friendly class, you will make a throw-sized (40 × 56”) quilt.
We’ll be using the Fast Four Patch quilt pattern from Diary of a Quilter.
You Will Learn:
Quilting terminology
To accurately cut using a rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, and cutting mat
How to piece (sew) your quilt top together
How to make a quilt “sandwich”
How to quilt (sew together the layers) of your quilt
How to bind your quilt
You are Welcome To Join This Class If:
You are aged 16 or older
You can confidently operate a sewing machine and sew a straight seam. (Having completed 2-3 projects recently will be a big help).
Supplies To Purchase
For Week 1:
1 ¼ yards of quilting cotton in a “background print” (for big squares on the front)
8 × 1/8 yard of various quilting cotton prints (for small squares on the front - I recommend that one of them is a solid colour so the quilt doesn’t look too “busy”)
For Week 2/3:
1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that blends in with your fabrics (i.e. Mettler or Guterman, no vintage or dollar store thread, please!)
For Week 4:
2 ½ yards of quilting cotton for back of quilt
Package of batting for a throw size quilt (60×60”)
1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that either blends in or contrasts with your fabrics, depending on the look you want
For Week 5:
½ yard of quilting cotton for binding
1 spool of good quality all-purpose thread that blends with your binding fabric
I Will Provide
A printed copy of the quilt pattern
All tools and equipment
(If you need one) A sewing machine, foot pedal, empty bobbin and a walking foot.
If you’re bringing your own machine, you will need a walking foot for the 4th class. (Contact me if you need more info about this!)
